Week 7: Lassie Come Home / Frankenweenie

Lassie Come Home (1943) MV5BMTYwOTkyMzI1Ml5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTYwNzk4NTk4._V1_UX182_CR0,0,182,268_AL_

This was the first of many films starring Pal, a Rough Collie who later took on the stage by the name Lassie. This film is about a boy in Yorkshire, England whose love for one another allows them to find each other against all obstacles. It was a huge success and hit for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.  Pal and his owner made lucrative career from Lassie’s success, and the dog’s descendants even played the title character in the television series Lassie launched in 1954. Like most movies the original will always be the best.

Frankenweenie (2012)

One of Tim Burton’s pet projects (pun intended) and based on a short film he created in 1984. Frankenweenie is a Frankenstein story with a twist. A boy resurrects his dog in the style of Victor Frankenstein but winds up having to do so for other kids in the neighborhood which of course, means chaos ensues. This film was nominated for an Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film and had positive feedback and critics from many.

Thanks for reading dog lovers. Have a great week!

“Old dogs, like old shoes, are comfortable. They might be a bit out of shape and a little word around the edges, but they fit well.” – Bonnie Wilcox
