Week 3: Disciplinary Training Methods

download (1)

Like children, all dogs learn differently. In a perfect world puppies would come home pre-trained or easy to train in areas such as potty training and listening. However that is rarely the case. We must use positive reinforcement to encourage good behavior and stop bad behavior before it begins to negatively effect our own lives or the lives of those we interact with.

Positive reinforcement training is the most recognized and used in today’s society. Many pet parents will say that distraction training is the best method, but others believe that it causes the dog to be frustrated and leads to more serious aggression. Personally I have never used distraction training, mainly because my dog is very focused and is easy to train.

**Please ndownloadote there is not correct or incorrect way to train your dog. By simply enforcing basic good behaviors such as sit, down, off and quiet usually come natural to many dogs to pick up on**

This way we can keep everyone happy and healthy.

5 Topics That Will Always Create Controversy in the Dog World

**In no way shape or form do I enjoy getting in to a highly controversy conversation as I believe we all have a right to our opinions, for the next 5 weeks I will be covering the Top 5 topics that create controversy in the dog world. I am a writer/reporter in this case and if I choose to share my opinions I ask for respect and no negativity be brought to this blog. Thanks in advance**

BREED DISCRIMINATION AND BREED SPECIFIC LEGISLATION

For most animal lovers we are forever beating a dead horse with breed discrimination and laws pertaining to specific breeds. For most we don’t worry about this issue and can brush it off, but for those living with “Dangerous dogs” (Pit bulls, rottweilers, mastiffs, chows, etc) it is something they face daily.

BSL affects where people can live, excluding them from nicer, safer neighborhoods due to the breed they own. Their daily lives are affected by simple tasks such as going for walks and visiting dog parks.

Most cities require a DNA, proper physical exam, behavioral assessments before impounding dogs and fining owners.  In most places they simply base the decision on physical appearance (square head, broad chest, short snout). This results in hasty and illegal euthanasia and leave pet parents devastated.

Worlds Rarest and Oldest Dog discovered

According to DNA analysis the New Guinea highland wild dog are the most ancient and primitive canids in existence. Recently thought to be extinct researchers have confirmed the existence of a healthy and viable population hidden in one on the most remote regions on Earth.

Researchers were able to capture 100s of photographs of at least 15 males, females and pups surviving far from human contact.

“This was a huge discovery and an incredible opportunity for science” stated the group from New Guinea Highland Wild Dog Foundation (NGHWDF)

The 2016 Expedition was able to gather information, samples and observe these creatures and learn how they thrive in the wild.

According to NGHWDF there are roughly 300 New Guinea singing dogs remaining in the world. Living in Zoos, private facilities and private homes.

Commonly known for their high-pitched howls. which if in a group perform in a chorus sometimes for several minutes.
